  • (Unannounced Title) – Senior Systems Designer

    This position will be on the team that is creating a new 3rd person action/adventure IP. Respawn is seeking a Senior Systems Designer to embrace and contribute to the project vision, specifically in the areas of hero control/mechanics, enemy design, AI behaviors, combat/weapons, class design, skills/progression, story, and boss encounters. Responsibilities:

    • Work with the design leadership, design team, artists, code, audio, and animation to deliver design systems that epitomize the creative vision of the game.
    • Research subject matter relating to the design objective in an effort to ensure the authenticity of the experience.
    • You will be expected to own design systems from conception to the final stages of polish, facilitating communication and coordinating departments to ensure the vision is clearly understood.
    • Be a positive influence on the entire team and as a designer, evangelize the ultimate promise to deliver “fun”.
    • Proactively seek out opportunities to identify and deal with issues before they arise.

    • Experience working with a game engine and using scripting tools to assemble heroes, enemies, AI, and interactive objects by collecting and implementing animations, models, audio, and effects into one complete system.
    • Extensive understanding of the systems design process including motion models, weapons tuning and feel, enemy concept and design, tools/upgrades, economy, balance, testing, etc.
    • Experience in rapid prototyping to test feasibility of concepts.
    Skills:
    • Strong understanding of text based scripting.
    • Expert game design sensibilities, including a superior grasp of timing and instincts of what feels right.
    • Demonstrates a deep understanding of gameplay systems and mechanics, able to pro/con design decisions and the ramifications they will have on the overall experience.
    • Understands how the importance of orchestrating gameplay systems in harmony across the entire game and is able to communicate the importance of this to other departments such as level design to ensure these mechanics are used frequently and appropriately.

  • (Titanfall) – Ops Engineer

    Respawn is looking for a server-based engineer to help us create as flawless and satisfying a user experience as possible for Titanfall. This engineer will take ownership of our server infrastructure for running Titanfall. Responsibilities will include scaling the infrastructure up, testing it, monitoring it, and automating things like handling server failure & needing more servers to handle scaling pressure. We are using Microsoft’s Azure cloud for hosting our actual dedicated game servers - this job is aimed at the home-grown parts we've done and need to support for the shipping game (things like being able to query a list of servers, skill-based team selection, and authentication). We have these services running on the Amazon cloud. We care a lot about the user experience with our game. We want to make it awesome. We want someone who wants to investigate why a match was so lopsided and see how we can improve our team-selection algorithm with a system to prove that it works better after we change it. Responsibilities:

    • Take ownership of server-based code and work on it for adding new features and bug fixes.
    • Monitor to look for cases where the user experience can be improved (matchmaking, pings to datacenter, etc).
    • Statistics and data logging, parsing, filtering, and aggregating
    • Write game-client code that interacts with backend
    • Potential projects include data visualization and interactive website work
