  • Software Engineer (senior and mid level) (Unannounced Title)

    Responsibilities:

    • Write code for video game development using C/C++.
    • Independently design, schedule, and implement game/engine features that meet the requirements art, design, and animation teams.
    • Add features to large complicated systems without unnecessary rework and without introducing bugs or performance issues.
    • Code/data optimization to improve both memory consumption and execution speed.
    • Use multi-threaded programming and 3D math.
    • Fix tricky bugs.

    Skills:

  • QA Manager – (Titanfall)

    Respawn is looking for a passionate QA Manager to join our development team. Manage the current QA team and continue to build and refine the team and processes, and help us ship bug free games.

    Responsibilities:

    • Continue to build the best QA team in game development. Review and interview candidates and assess current personnel and team skill sets.
    • Heavy hands-on testing as well as supervising the team. You should strive for perfection and get the QA team to have the same quality bar.
    • Handle personnel and performance issues. Work to maintain team harmony and positive morale.
    • Create and implement comprehensive test plans and schedules to ensure maximum efficiency.
    • Ensure that schedules are adhered to and deadlines are met.
    • Work and communicate directly and proactively with developers.
    • Be a master of prioritization and know when you need to shift gears.
    • Know everything that is happening with the game. Be point person for test status and features.
    • Be a mentor to new testers and leads. Develop training methods and guides.
    • Constantly review and improve QA processes and procedures.
    • Ensure thorough and effective testing, make sure all areas of the game are covered.
    • Manage the bug database so it reflects the latest status by finding duplicate issues and making sure bugs are moved to the appropriate people.
    • Assist development team in tracking down issues and ensure blocker issues are fixed as quickly as possible.
    • Summarize, prioritize and disperse information in a clear and precise manner that is easily understood.
    • Work closely with other department leads to identify potential development issues or trouble areas.
    • Help run and manage studio or department playtests on a regular basis. This includes making builds and ensuring builds are stable.
    • Maintains a deep understanding of the entire development process and the game engine.

    Requirements:

    • Experience leading a QA Team in game development from concept to ship.
    • 4+ years experience in software or game development QA.
    • Experience building a QA team (reviewing and interviewing candidates, etc)
    • Strong, demonstrable technical skills and comprehension.
    • Advanced experience using software defect tracking systems.
    • Experience writing and implementing test plans.
    • Multiplayer QA experience.
    • BS in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience a major plus.

  • Senior Systems Designer – (Unannounced Title)

    This position will be on the team that is creating a new 3rd person action/adventure IP. Respawn is seeking a Senior Systems Designer to embrace and contribute to the project vision, specifically in the areas of hero control/mechanics, enemy design, AI behaviors, combat/weapons, class design, skills/progression, story, and boss encounters. Responsibilities:

    • Work with the design leadership, design team, artists, code, audio, and animation to deliver design systems that epitomize the creative vision of the game.
    • Research subject matter relating to the design objective in an effort to ensure the authenticity of the experience.
    • You will be expected to own design systems from conception to the final stages of polish, facilitating communication and coordinating departments to ensure the vision is clearly understood.
    • Be a positive influence on the entire team and as a designer, evangelize the ultimate promise to deliver “fun”.
    • Proactively seek out opportunities to identify and deal with issues before they arise.
    • Ability to self-critique and accept outside critique. The more feedback you receive, the more you can tailor your work towards what is best for the game.
    • Demonstrate a willingness to keep an open mind to coworker’s ideas, incorporating suggestions when applicable.
    • Participate in the research and development of new tools and design systems.
    • Contribute to establishing and enforcing consistent design practices, constraints, and metrics throughout projects.

    Experience:

    • Experience working with a game engine and using scripting tools to assemble heroes, enemies, AI, and interactive objects by collecting and implementing animations, models, audio, and effects into one complete system.
    • Extensive understanding of the systems design process including motion models, weapons tuning and feel, enemy concept and design, tools/upgrades, economy, balance, testing, etc.
    • Experience in rapid prototyping to test feasibility of concepts.
    Skills:
    • Strong understanding of text based scripting.
    • Expert game design sensibilities, including a superior grasp of timing and instincts of what feels right.
    • Demonstrates a deep understanding of gameplay systems and mechanics, able to pro/con design decisions and the ramifications they will have on the overall experience.
    • Understands how the importance of orchestrating gameplay systems in harmony across the entire game and is able to communicate the importance of this to other departments such as level design to ensure these mechanics are used frequently and appropriately.
    • Has the sensibility to know when the concept/prototype stage is complete and the time has come to bring other departments into the mix.

  • Server Software Engineer – (Titanfall)

    As we work on a new game, we're looking for talented engineers to join us to work on the next generation of our game servers and backend servers to expand it to be better, smarter, and do more. Titanfall uses a custom backend that we've developed to do everything from manage our cloud-based servers to running our custom matchmaking, custom skill system, user authentication, and game telemetry. We currently use this not just to keep the game working, but also to work on improving both the quality and speed of the matchmaking and the game experience. Our game servers are all C++, and our backend servers are a mix of Python, LUA, and PHP. The game servers interact with our backend mostly through a RESTful system to talk to web frontends running nginx. We want to do even more with our custom backend, and we need great engineers to help us get there. Responsibilities:

    • Work with a small team of smart engineers in expanding and improving our servers for our next game
    • Expand our telemetry with feedback systems to collect and analyze data about the game and the servers that run it
    • Improve our game server management, skill system, and matchmaking systems
    • Design and implement new features for the project
    Requirements:
    • A desire to ship great games

    • Linux experience
    • Networked / distributed systems tooling and debugging

  • VFX Artist – (Titanfall & Unannounced Title)

    Respawn is looking for a VFX Artist to join our team.  This position is available for both our Titanfall team and our team that is working on a new 3rd person action/adventure IP. Responsibilities:

    • Bring life and excitement to the game through your design and implementation of compelling realistic visual effects.
    • Coordinate with Art, Design and Animation to ensure VFX match quality bar and vision for the game.
    • Fix VFX related bugs, including performance and budget issues.
    • Help to improve technical pipelines and VFX creation techniques/tools.
    • Assist with research and development.
    • Adhere to schedule and meet deadlines.
    Requirements:
    • Demonstrable ability to create beautiful and affecting VFX for games, film/tv, or a combination of both.
    • Experience working within a game engine. Shipped games preferred.
    • Both technical and creative with a strong artistic vision.
    • Motivated, proactive self-starter.
    • Strong understanding of particle systems.
    • 5+ years' experience as an effects artist.
